"Down River"
The Warden
When Tally and Shay come into the city again, they run into a Warden. She ask if she will make her pretty. If I was Tally I would do that because, I know it was what I had to do. Eventually I would need to become pretty, so by asking the Warden it might come faster. I would be a little precautions about it though, not so open like Tally was. I mean what if she said no, or started asking a million questions. I wouldn't know how to answer them so quickly. Or what if she brought me to Special Circumstances and they didn't turn me pretty because I helped everyone escape. Who knows, but I know I would be nervous asking that to a Warden.

Coming Clean
Tally is finally coming clean about what she did. She is afraid that David will change his mind about her. I don't think he will though. He loves her enough to see pass that. I don't think he blames Tally for his fathers death either. He might be upset now, but later on I know he will get over it and start loving Tally again. Hopefully Tally will still feel the same way about David, and not change her mind.

" Hippocratic Oath"
The Cure
I am glad Maddy didn't force Shay to take the "cure." Shay has a right to choose even though she really doesn't know the right thing to choose. If Maddy did make her take it, then things might have turned out bad. Shay could have not been able to work with the "cure" or she could go tell Dr. Cable and the others. So I am glad Maddy didn't force it on Shay.

Shay
If you were Shay, would you get the cure? Why or why not? In my opinion I can see to answers to this question, or two different ways for myself to answer. First, if I was told everything about the operation before I got it then I would understand. But the fact that they didn't tell her and she has already changed, it is hard for her to believe such thing. If it were me, I can see why she wouldn't want to change back. She is happy and beautiful, getting everything she wants by just asking for it...not working for it. So what do you think? Would you change back??

"Tally thought of the lesions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friend's thoughts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."
To me this is saying how Tally is really seeing how the operation changes you. It hurts her to see Shay like this. Especially knowing it was her fault. She can't tell Shay what really the operation does to you now because she wouldn't believe her. Tally is horrified and isn't left with any choices to change how Shay is...it's already too late.

Chronological Order
  • Tally and David finds the others and knock Dr. Cable out.
  • Shay walks and they find out she is pretty
  • They ask if everyone is pretty but Shay says no, they are all locked up in isolation
  • David and Tally get everyone out and run away fast
  • They get to the elevator and drag Dr. Cable with them
  • On the way David is trying to find his dad, but his mom tells him he is DEAD!

DUN, DUN, DUN! DID AZ REALLY DIE? IS MADDY TELLING A LIE? IF SO WHERE IS AZ, AND WHY IS MADDY LIEN? FIND OUT LATER ON IN THE BOOK!

"Inside"
What does this mean to you?
"Radiology, Neurology, Magnetic Imaging," she ready softly. "Operating Theatre Two."
Tally is reading theses signs as she walks through Special Circumstances with David. She is remembering how the operation affects your brain, and is seeing that they study that. Radiology could be seeing what type of brain waves you get before and after the operation, to tell the difference. Neurology could be like a cat scan of your brain, and Magnetic Imaging could be how the magnetic fields of the city affect you. This is what I am thinking those mean.
The Labels
In the hall Tally and David come across labels that read, Interrogation room One, Interrogation Room Two, Isolation Room One, and Disorientation Room One. I think the first two interrogation rooms are for questioning people when they come across a problem like they did with Tally. The isolation room is for putting people alone for awhile when they won't cooperate in questioning, and then the disorientation room is for hurting or killing people when they won't cooperate at all.
Shay's Appearance
Shay has just been found pretty by Tally and David. They can't believe it! She is described as, "She was tall and elegant, every feature perfection. Her eyes-deep and soulful.."page 381. Tally is thinking that they turned everyone pretty but then soon finds out that it's not true. She is now knowing how the operation can change a person by Shay's change in personality.

"Over the Edge"
My Message
If I had a chance to post one important message it would be how much I love my family and friends. They are always there for me when I need them, and take care of me. When I'm sick or hurt they comfort me, and when I need their help they don't turn me down. I love them like crazy and would do anything for them. My mom and dad would do anything and everything to make me happy and I don't thank them enough. I usually take things for granted when I shouldn't. My friends know my personality and put up with it, which is very hard. I am very controlling and don't like to be told what to do. They have always put up with my crud and stick with me till the end. I don't know what'd I'd do without my family and friends. I can't thank them enough.

" Accomplices"
Tally has changed from the beginning. She sees the truth be hide things, and has spent time away from the city. Tally has learned about the operation and has fallen in love. The uglies she sees know are ignorant and know nothing. The play tricks to pass time and want to become pretty. Tally understands why they felt like this, but also now knows why they mustn't become one.

" Familar Sights"
Tally's Plan
Tally's plan will work out in the end. She wants to help David find his parents because she doesn't want him to know of her secret plus she really cares about him. Tally doesn't want to hurt David. Her feelings are valid about helping David.

'Oil Plague"
The Rusties
Tally and David describe the rusties by saying we were stupid and didn't know much. We took advantage of the land, and eventually destroyed it, and us. They also said though that some were smart for making certain technology.
Our weaknesses
The weaknesses of our society today are in my opinon war, and destruction of our enviorment. If our whole world were to go into war everything would be destroyed in the end. No people, except people that could undergo the war experiences. And if we don't stop over using our enivorment then we will soon be with out them. Cars and many things made from oil will be gone and fossil fuels wouldn't be able to help us anymore.
Their weakness
The weakness in Tally's society is the truth be hide the operation. If everyone knew what really happen their world would go mad. People would get mad and there would be no more money going into the operation.

"Ruin"
Tally's Victory
Tally got her victory over Dr. Cable by keeping those few magazines. Now she can show the world how life used to be like, and how the operation is changing people. But she lost she lost the Smoke and the Boss in the process. Her loss was or is critical but she will pull through.

Miss Amazing
Tally does not deserve to be called amazing by David. She has betrayed him in so many ways. She has lied, intruded, and hurt many of her friends. But then again in his eyes all he sees is how amazing she is. She is in a way though. Tally travled all the way to smoke by herself, fought against Special Circumstances, and has learned to live with a lie.

In the Dark
I think the voice tallking to Tally in the cave is one of Tally's friends. She said it sounded familar and that it might be a guy's voice. I think it is probably David. She couldn't find him and this would explain where he is. Plus only her, David, and his parents knew of this place.

" The Rabbit Pen"
Leaving Smoke
What will Tally do now that she is out of Smoke? What side is she on? Well I think Tally is now on Smoke's side. She didn't know that throwing the ring in the fire would activate it to send Special Circumstances there. Tally was just trying to get rid of it so she could live a normal life as a smokie. She called the Smoke her home now, and she didn't want to lose it. David and her now had a relationship that she didn't want to ruin, plus she had met his parents. Tally also learned what really happened in the operation. How they changed your mind too, as they changed your body. Tally doesn't want to be pretty anymore, she just wanted to live among the smokies in Smoke and be with her friends and David.

" Invasion"
Climax
Is this the climax of the story!???
I think it is the climax of the story because it is where Tally has a big choice to make, and because this is the most major thing that has happened in the book so far. Tally has to leave Smoke with the Special Circumstances as they destroy it. She has her future ahead of her and no one knows how it might turn out. What will she say to her friends, now that they know? What will she do about David and their relationship? Will she turn pretty? No one knows. So just like at the begging of the book you are left with questions. That's why in the end of the book , it will answer these.

" What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful."
In my home life, one person I truly think is beautiful from the inside out is my mom. She works had to keep me in line, and loves me like no one else could. Even though we might not always get along, we end up making up in the end. She understands me, and gets sometimes what I am going through. My mom helps others like crazy, and would do anything for her family. My mother is an independent woman, with a feisty attitude. I love her with all my heart, and hope her the best in raising me.
The person I think is beautiful in my school life is Amanda Sass. She is a wonderful girl, with a great heart. Her mind is always determined on something, and when it is, she goes for it until she reaches her goal. She doesn't care if she is the best looking or most impressive, she just tries hard and does great.
Another person I think is beautiful is Natalie Parr. She is a confident little overachiever that I love to death. Natalie always knows how to make you laugh when your down, and is super crazy. Her hyperness is sometimes a little overwhelming but helps in the long run. She will do almost anything for you and is a great friend.
I love both Amanda and Natalie , and hope we stay friends for a very long time.

" Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look...it changes the was you think."
In the story becoming pretty is everything for young uglies. It's their life long dream to become a new pretty and go live in New Pretty Town. But all that would change if you knew the truth behind becoming pretty. In realization to becoming pretty, the real thing that happens is that your mind changes. The operation changes how you think, so every one would get along.
To me I would not like that. I like how I am, and how I think. I wouldn't be an individual if that wasn't how life was. Plus I wouldn't want my mind to become like everyone else's. Not to have my own opinion and feelings would be devastating.

"But you do know about genetics don't you? Sure I know all about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird."
To me, this is telling me how so many things have changed with the city. The fact that people do the operation now, totally messes up the genes in people. You really do look like your parents when your born, but it would be what they looked like before they turned pretty. The operation takes that away, so now when Tally is realizing that David and his dad look alike, she is getting the fact that parents and children can look alike if they don't get the operation.
Being Pretty
Being pretty is being like every one else. Not having much difference in your appearance, and not having the same genes you would if you stayed ugly. In the operation, they switch how you look so that means they can change your genes. Isn't that why they say people are all different and we should appreciate that? I like the way I am. And I would probably go to Smoke if there was an operation like that.

Personification
"She thought of the orchids spreading across the plains below, choking the life out of other plants, out of the sold itself, selfish and unstoppable. Tally Youngblood was a weed. And, unlike the orchids, she wasn't even a pretty one." page 244
Imagery
" They climbed the ridge from which Tally had first looked down on the settlement, and David led her along it to a cool, flat outcrop of stone where a view opened up between the trees. As always, Tally noticed how graceful David was, how he seemed to know every step of the path intimately. Not even pretties, whose bodies were perfectly balanced, designed for elegance in every kind of clothing, moved with such effortless control." page 245
Meet the Parents
I think it requires bravery to meet David's parents because that is a big step in the Smoke. Also in Tally and David's relationship. The fact that no one else really has met them means that David trust her enough to do so. Tally is also hiding the fact she is a spy, so going to David's parents could give it away.

" Work"

To me this picture resembles the skyline Tally sees in the chapter work. Even though it doesn't exactly look like what I imagined, it is close. The beautiful thing about this picture, is that it is showing nature. It was probably a warm summer day when this picture was taken. The ugly part about this image though, is that there isn't much color. Most of it is brown and dull. It doesn't jump out at you.

" The Model" page 195
Shay's Description
In Shay's description of the model I do think it is true about how models are too skinny. Personally the only models I think are pretty are the Victoria Secret models. Other models are too skinny and don't have pretty faces because they are covered in makeup. They also have toothpick legs and no boobs..just saying. We should be happy with how we look and don't obsess to much over it..even though I do. Some girls even kill themselves over it which is horrible. But then again our world is getting more and more obese because of fast food and lack of exercise. So stay healthy and in shape, and everything will be okay. :)
Our Time
Shay and Tally have a skewed view of our time. They think we were crazy and extremely ugly. They didn't understand why we did some of the things we did. The thought of cutting down trees, not eating, everyone being ugly, and our weird contraptions scared them. They thought we were wrong for doing those things. What do they have right though? They were right about us misusing the land. We should savor what we have and no harm it. The pollution is rising in North America and other continents. We need to stop this. Animals are dieing from this too..so we need to look at how our future is turning and change it.
